Michael’s first community involvement came through his teaching and devotion to a variety of charitable causes. His care for the community soon translated itself into a successful run for Council where he believed his passion for Vaughan could make a difference. He was elected Councillor for the Town of Vaughan in 1985.

Michael was elected and re-elected as Senior Regional and Local Councillor each term from 1988-2003 and often served as Acting Mayor. In 2002,  Michael was appointed Mayor of the City of Vaughan and elected Mayor of the City of Vaughan for the term 2003-2006. He has represented residents and businesses on numerous boards, committees and task forces in Vaughan, York Region, GTA and beyond. Michael has received many awards for his community service and leadership such as the Queen’s Golden Jublilee Medal, Samnite Award and Knight Officer of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy.He is a graduate of York University and University of Toronto. Michael was a secondary school teacher prior to being elected. His area of expertise included:Business Studies for Accounting, Marketing and Merchandising, as well as, Physical and Health Education. He coached many senior students and local community sports teams.

Michael speaks Italian, French and Spanish. He enjoys photography,soccer, tennis, fishing, gardening, traveling, technology and reading.   He is involved in the community with the youth, seniors and those most vulnerable. He  takes courses in keeping with his belief in life-long learning. Michael and his wife Eliana have raised three children during the thirty-three years they have lived in Vaughan. Their children continue to live and raise their families in Vaughan.

Action Plan

– save tax dollars & improve  services

– act on pressing social service needs of children  & seniors

-place Vaughan interests first at Regional  Council to reduce gridlock, get mass  transit and safe roads needed &  deserved

– protect and enhance our natural, heritage &  cultural environment

– build a hospital
