Susan Michelini

(The following is in the candidate’s own words)

I have been a resident of Vaughan for 12 years.  I have been married to my husband JP since 1992 and have 2 wonderful daughters who are currently attending St. Robert High School in Thornhill, the youngest in the International Baccalaureate program.

I graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts. I am currently a Sales and Marketing Manager for a software development company.  My husband and I are Youth Group leaders for the St. Padre Pio Parish and are practicing Catholics, he is a Knight with the Knights of Columbus and I am a Lector within the Parish.  The Campaign Life Coalition has rated me as supportable in their ratings of the candidates for Catholic School Trustee.

I have always taken a whole hearted interest in the academics of my children, from JK in a private school setting to their enrollment in the Catholic York Region High School environment.  I have always had a concern with Woodbridge schools as there has appeared to be a complacency that has developed as to how low our students are scoring on standardized Ontario tests, specifically our Woodbridge High Schools which rank well below other High Schools within the Region of York.  I believe it is time to find out why and do something about it.  Our Woodbridge kids are too smart not to excel.

My priorities if elected are:

  • Improve the school rating in Woodbridge, specifically High Schools
  • Open the doors to communication between parents and the classrooms
  • Provide transparency of appropriation of funds within the schools
  • Provide much needed academic and athletic programs to Woodbridge schools
  • Step up our commitment to Catholic values and advocate for the progression and passion of Catholic education.
