[Note: The following is an unedited version of the candidate’s own words]

My name is Daniel Salvatore and I am a candidate for Ward 2. I have recently completed an undergraduate honours degree at Queen’s University in political studies, and have for the past several months been preparing to launch my candidacy for Woodbridge West councillor. On May 10th planning became action; since then I have been knocking on doors connecting with local residents and businesses to hear what their concerns are and present what I bring to the table.

I decided to pursue the challenge of municipal representation because I find the prospect of improving the community I grew up in both challenging and rewarding. As councillor I look forward to connecting with my roots and working hard to address the challenges that face my community. I intend to bring a fresh perspective and rejuvenate the relations between Vaughan council and Woodbridge residents. Vaughan has changed significantly over the past decade, along with its residents’ priorities and this past term has not been conducive to fostering the city’s potential. Senior’s mobility, accountability, civic engagement and a focus on a “greener Vaughan” are a few of the areas that require stronger leadership within the city. In providing that leadership I will be more energetic and attentive in my relations with residents. Having lived in this community for 22 years I am more than capable of putting the interests of residents first and significantly improving the quality of life in Vaughan.

Some will question my ability to meet the challenges of municipal office, due to my age and relative inexperience. At university I was elected to the Senate of Queen’s University where I was responsible for lobbying on behalf of students to the administration. Throughout my experiences working with others I have found that I am capable of working well together in order to put forward the best outcome possible. I view my relative youth as a quality to be embraced and one which can improve the nature and workings of Vaughan City Council. During my mandate, I intend to reach out to local youth and hopefully inspire others toward civic engagement. The slogan for my campaign is “Working together” because that is exactly what I intend to do as Ward 2 Councillor.

Regards,

Daniel Salvatore
