Bernie DiVona, wife and family have been residents of Ward 3 for the past 25 years — “from the community”.

He has 25 years of public service, first elected in November 1994 to make Vaughan the best place to live, work, play and raise a family. He has distinguished himself with having taken a leadership role with responsible financial management, quality of life issues: Budget Chief, Audit Chief, Safe City Committee, Trustee Vaughan Public Libraries, Director of Vaughan Hospital Foundation, PowerStream, and over 25 agencies boards, boards and committees.

Councillor Bernie DiVona has a distinguished long history “for the community” and his dedication and service includes: Chair-Ms Walk, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sharelife; Pine Valley Carnival, A Taste of Vaughan, Director Vaughan Hospital Foundation; Director Vaughan Community Health Centre; Boy Scout Leader, and with local daycares, church, etc.

Councillor DiVona has inspired positive changes, a new sense of civic pride and responsibility, and has worked tirelessly to play an active and constructive role in government, business and community issues as best exemplified by his motto – “working for you”.

Councillor Bernie Di Vona brings to his position extensive senior management and consulting experience with public and private companies. He has taught college in the areas of accounting, finance, computers, business law, and taxation. His business acumen and his commitment to better manage the City have contributed to a more efficient municipal organization.

His professional and educational backgrounds consists of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Toronto; Fellow in Business Administration (F.B.A.); an executive Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A.); and various specialized certificates such as an Auditing Certificate. Councillor Di Vona is an accredited professional accountant

The issues I consider important to Vaughan, include:

  • A hospital in Vaughan;
  • lower taxes and better services;
  • improved traffic, roads and bridges;
  • the construction of the subway to Vaughan;
  • a safe city for all to enjoy – young and old; and
  • managing growth, in regards to high density developments.
