Five-term YCSDB trustee Micheal Carnovale dies after battle with cancer

29 Sep

I received the following press release from the York Catholic District School Board.

After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Vice-Chair of the York Catholic District School Board, Micheal Carnovale, has sadly passed away.

Vice-Chair Carnovale was in Italy with his family and passed away today, September 29, on the feast of St. Michael.

Vice-Chair Carnovale was a five-term trustee at the York Catholic District School Board. He was initially elected in 1994 and served on numerous
committees, including: the Accommodation; Executive; Vaughan-School Board Liaison; and Budget Analysis Committees. He also served as a member and
Chair of the Labour Relations Committee.

“We are devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague,” said Board Chair, Elizabeth Crowe. “Micheal was an excellent representative for his schools and
his communities and he always ensured that everyone’s viewpoint was heard. We will miss his novel, out-of-the-box approach to problem-solving that always kept our students at the forefront of our discussions,” said Crowe.

“He was a proactive trustee with a very generous heart, and we were blessed that he gave so freely of his talents and time to the benefit of our system,” said Director of Education, Susan LaRosa. “Our prayers go out to his family – wife Maria, and children, Cassandra, Vincent and Adrienne.”

As the representative for the Vaughan (Woodbridge, Area 3, Ward 3) district, Vice-Chair Carnovale was seeking another term as trustee in the upcoming
school board election.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.

I last chatted with Micheal at the Meet and Greet session for Ward 3 on Sept. 15, where he also chatted animatedly with residents. Our thoughts are with Mr. Carnovale’s family at this time.
