Hey Concord/North Thornhill hopefuls (Ward 4): Transit stinks! What will you do?

1 Oct

Joshua Freeman caught up with Ward 4 hopefuls at the Meet and Greet Session Sept. 20. He asked:  Traffic congestion is an increasing problem in your ward. If elected, what will you do to improve the lives of public transit users in your ward?

The Yonge subway extension is needed. … I have a lot of contacts through Smart Commute NTV, I have some contacts at Metrolinx and at the provincial Ministry of Transportation.

I’d be able to work well with all of them to put a plan together for Vaughan and York Region as a whole.

The two main things to make public transit work is that it has to be convenient and it has to be economical and if you don’t have either one, it’s not going to work. One of the biggest problems is the imaginary boundary at Steeles where you have to pay twice if you cross over. It’s unfair and it’s not right.

We need to generate the revenue for transit companies to allow them to create a harmonized fare agreement between the YRT and the TTC to include a one-fare charge to at least Major Mackenzie; to create rapid access to the subway via restricted lanes in peak hours; for additional routes that are needed, as well as increased frequency to existing ones; and of course, the subway.
