UPDATE: Candidates to debate next week afterall

18 Nov

Those of you eager to see the by-election candidates go toe-to-toe will get your chance Nov. 23. The Vaughan Citizen, Human Endeavor and the Vaughan Social Action Committee are hosting a debate from 7 to 9:30pm at Vellore Village Community Centre. Four candidates have been invited.  Kevin Bordian (New Democratic Party), Julian Fantino (Conservative Party of Canada), Tony Genco (Liberal Party of Canada) and Claudia Rodriguez-Larrain (Green Party of Canada). It will be moderated by Professor Daniel Cohn of York University. Rogers TV will also air a debate at the same time on channel 10 or 63.

(Ed. note regarding the headline: Tony Genco’s campaign had been issuing press releases for a couple weeks now saying Julian Fantino’s campaign didn’t want to debate and had said no to several requests for such. Fantino’s campaign says it ain’t so. I’ll try to get details today.)

Ed.note 2: Fantino’s camp has cleared things up: Mr. Fantino will attend the Rogers debate (to be aired Nov. 23, but prerecorded). On Nov. 23, though, he has a family commitment to attend to that evening and cannot attend the Citizen’s debate. Stephen Lecce from Fantino’s campaign says they weren’t given any options for debate dates.

Where: Vellore Village Community Centre, 1 Villa Royale Ave., in the cafetorium

When: Tuesday, November 23 from 7pm to 9:30pm
